What should I wear? FAMILIES

When choosing colors for your outfits, the goal is to coordinate, not match. As a whole family choose 2-3 coordinating colors (no more than two colors and a neutral). Good examples include blue, coral and white or mustard, purple and grey. The colors don’t need to be the same shade. Do what works for skin tones and hair for each person. I recommend avoiding ultra-bright, neon colors and prints, it will help bring all the attention to your faces and let the eye focus on the way you feel about each other. Try softer, lighter tones and more muted shades in the Spring and Summer when the trees and grasses are lush and green and the flowers are blooming. The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white.  In the Fall and Winter, rich navy, mustard yellow and burgundy can add a lovely pop among the rolling golden hills. These color palettes fit beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments.  For men and boys, layers will bring extra dimension and visual interest to your photos. Blazers, vests and coats up the level of any look. For women and girls, dresses and skirts look most stunning because they really flatter every female body, especially on camera. Floral prints and long, full-length, flowy dresses and skirts look amazing on camera because they bring extra movement to the photos. Especially when juxtaposed with nature, like the forest, plains or beach. Consider softer fabrics which drape and allow for beautiful movement in the images.

Makeup Tips

If you are doing your own make-up, use natural shades like ivories, peaches, browns, apricots, and pinks on the cheeks and eyes, to match your natural undertone. Avoid hard lines such as, overly sculpted brows, lips, or eyeliner. Many make-up products contain shimmer. Use these sparingly as shimmer will reflect light and can make features look either larger, smaller or skin oily.  Stick to the top of cheek and brow bone and bridge of the nose, and avoid the t-zone area. I recommend a creamy lip; a soft matte chin, nostrils, and forehead.  Your makeup should have a blurred, soft-focus effect.

The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable and be yourself!
